Aveda (pronounced "ah-vay-da") was founded in 1978 by Horst M. Rechelbacher. Originally from Austria, Rechelbacher first began working at a salon in Minneapolis in the mid-1960s when he was just 14 years-old.

Later in life Rechelbacher became an avid environmentalist and incorporated his love of the environment into Aveda's organic hair care products. All Aveda products contain only natural plants and flower essences combined with aromatherapy. And none of Aveda's products are tested on animals.

Today, Aveda's product line includes non-chemical skin care, makeup, perfumes and spa products amidst its broad range of pure botanical products. Women are not the only ones fond of Aveda's organic pure cosmetics, but men also rave about the natural, physiological effects of Aveda's natural ingredients.
